Lost Garage Epidemic

3 of my favorite neighborhoods, Shaw, Tower Grove East and Tower Grove South have many, many properties without garages. The foundations appear to be there, even remnants of walls and other various structures exist. But, I've got to wonder: what happened to all the garages in Shaw and TGE?

What do you think it would run to build a new garage? Has anyone out there done this, either themselves or contracted it out?

  1. We tore down our delapidated garage a few years ago and had a new one built by a company that specifically deals in garages. A basic two-car with vinyl siding (one large car door, one human door and one window) ran about $12000.

  2. That sounds reasonable. If you liked their work, can you tell me the name of the company?

I was pleased with the work. If you want anything fancy, or custom-designed I don't think this is the company for you, but if you just want a basic garage I would recomend them. The work was done very quickly, too.

  5. I live in South City and called a company called Coachhouse Garages (www.coachhousegarages.com). They quoted me around $ 17000. They also sent me a list of all garages in my zip code so we could see some of their work.
